After our long and brutal winter, there’s nothing better than being able to spend time outdoors enjoying the warm summer weather. If you want to make the most out of the season, here are some of the best spots in Ottawa to soak up the sun and enjoy summer to the max.
Hog’s Back Falls
Hog’s Back Falls is a picturesque area that’s always worth a visit in the summer, and it’s the perfect place to plan a picnic. Take a walk along the pathways to find the perfect spot near the water. There are many grassy areas to lay down a blanket and enjoy the day in the sun.
You’ll also come across the waterfall that’s just near the south end of the park.
Vincent Massey Park
Another big sprawling green space to add to your list is Vincent Massey Park. There’s plenty of room to stretch out and find a quiet spot to soak in nature. You can take your bike along the paths or fire up one of the onsite grills to enjoy a barbeque with the family.
It’s a good spot if you want lots of room to play with the kids, kick a ball around and chill out.
Rideau Falls
Who doesn’t love searching for waterfalls in the summer? This one is so conveniently located right in the city. Walk along Sussex Drive, and you’ll end up right where the Ottawa River merges with the Rideau Canal. There are some interesting monuments here as well, so you can learn a little about the history of Ottawa while you explore.
Westboro Beach
If you’re craving a little beach time, head to the most popular one in the city – Westboro. Bring your canoe, paddleboard or banket to work on your tan. There are barbeque pits that you can use to grill on as well. There’s also the Westboro Café that usually has live music during the summer season (keep your eyes peeled on COVID updates for this).
Brewer Park
Brewer Park is located near Carleton University and is ideal if you have kids. There’s a splash pad, lots of playgrounds, ball diamonds, and more. So if your kids have lots of energy to burn off, make sure to add this to your list of places to visit this summer.
Sometimes, just staying put and enjoying the privacy in your own backyard is the best way to soak up the sun and take full advantage of the summer season. If your yard could use a little TLC, contact our team at Hansen Lawn & Gardens.
