Who doesn’t love a cool, refreshing summery drink poolside? We’re tempted to run to the fridge ourselves just thinking about it! Speaking of which, have you learned any new recipes? The Hansen Lawn & Gardens team does a lot of thirsty work, so we’ve been busy whipping up our own favourites whenever we’re off with family and friends! Here are our picks.
Piña Colada
Ice-cold, smooth and sweet with a hint of coconut goodness, this is a classic cocktail you just can’t do without once the warm weather hits! There are all sorts of Piña Colada recipes out there, but they all essentially require coconut milk, crushed or blended ice, and pineapple juice. Add rum if you want a bit of a kick to it, and don’t forget to plop in one of those tiny umbrellas and a maraschino cherry!
Mojito
Put on some salsa music, sip a Mojito, close your eyes, and you’ll think you were lounging along the Malecon in Havana. This ultra-refreshing drink is a Cuban icon in its own right, yet hugely popular around the world! Typically, it consists of five ingredients including white rum, sugar, lime juice, mint leaves, and soda water. You can add citrusy juices to give it a bit of a spin, but we’ll stick to the original cocktail when lounging by the pool on our days off, thank you!
Seabreeze
We’d like to think we came up with this one on our own but stop us if you’ve heard of it elsewhere! Mix crushed ice with cranberry (half a glass), pineapple, orange, and a splash of grapefruit juice to make the ultimate mocktail. Or, add in some light rum to make it the new favourite at your next summer get-together! It’s sweet, very pink, and pretty darn addictive – one sip and you’ll think you were in the tropics!
Daquiri
This one’s another classic, but it just screams “summer’s here!” You can flavour it any way you like – it just requires blending a half-cup each of fresh and frozen fruit of choice We’re partial to lime, peach and strawberry variants personally – delicious! Daquiris require juice from one lime as well as four ounces of light rum. And hey, why not garnish it with a lemon slice?
From mocktails to full-on classic cocktails, here’s to a summer of refreshing, ice-cold drinks! What are some of your favourites? Or, have you given our suggestions a thoughtful sip? Let us know in the comments below.
